The Happy Tail of Fred
Thursday, 22 July 2010 15:19
At the 4 Paws Society, we love to hear from those who have adopted a dog from us. We consider them "Happy Tails" and post them right here.
If you have adopted from 4 Paws and want to share your story and pictures with us, please do. Below is a copy of an e-mail sent to 4 Paws President Wanda Williams.
Hi, Wanda,
I just wanted to send you an update on Fred.
Fred was still in recovery mode for about a week or so after we adopted him, healing up from his neutering and finishing up his kennel cough medication. He's healed up nicely now, and has so much more spunk than when we first met him! His personality is coming out more and more each day, and his confidence is, too. Betsy has really enjoyed showing him the ropes and they are starting to have fun playing together. They occasionally grumble with each other like siblings will, but they stick close together and have no problems sharing their toys, water, etc. Fred tries to wash Betsy's ears, and I've caught them "spooning" in bed, LOL. Fred makes a lot of really funny corgi noises, including a low rumbling sound when we are petting him that sounds just like purring!
Tex-Rex, another Happy Tail
J
ust an up date on Tex…
We call him Tex-Rex or TR for short. Getting along GREAT.
Stays around the house when we’re out side, Hiking on a leash unless very close to home.
FRIENDLY to a fault. We are VERY HAPPY with him and think he is with us.
He learned where to be while we’re eating (in 3 days) ..otherwise follow us around..some times sleeps under the bed or on his bed in the LR..
Right now he is about 3 feet from me as I type this.

Faith's Happy Tail
Two year old Faith was dumped, an unwanted matted mess, in a neighborhood in southern Louisiana and turned in to 4 Paws Society Inc.
She was found to be heart worm positive. After being spayed and treated for heart worms, she spent some time learning house manners in a home with her wonderful foster mother Angela.
When our little Westie passed away recently we decided to look for a rescue who needed us and began searching Petfinder.com. We found Faith and after a long day of travel she arrived smiling on the PETS LLC Rescue Transport in Nashville, ready to enjoy the good life in Tennessee.
She is beautiful, playful, well trained and we wish we could have more just like her!
Adopting Faith thru Petfinder.com is the best thing we have done in a long time!

The Happy Tail of Dutchess
Thursday, 10 June 2010 00:00

Mike Louviere and his wife adopted a 4paws Corgi dog named "Dutchess."
Below is an e-mail that he sent to us regarding the "therapy" she is providing to his wife who has diabetes and has been hospitalized for treatment recently.
"If I could have designed a dog for my wife and I, I do not think that I could have done better than Dutchess. She has made herself at home with me. She is alert, yet quiet, exactly what an apartment dog needs to be.
The last two afternoons I have taken her to visit my wife at Holly Hill Nursing Home. It was love at first sight with Jane. She adores Dutchess. I could not believe how well-behaved Dutchess was/is. She allows anyone who wants to pet her to pet her as long as they wish to.
Nothing seems to make her nervous, she just rolls with all the punches. She does pull on her leash a little when we are inside and going down the halls. All the smells and sights interest her. So far she has not tried to herd wheelchairs, but it would not surprise me if she did.
Sadie
This is a wonderful and beautiful Corgi girl that is 3 years old and rather small for a Corgi.
She is a pure bred Corgi and is the typical Welsh Corgi personality. Highly intelligent, energetic, happy and affectionate.
Like the majority of Corgis, she is independent. She plays well with other dogs and loves people.
She might try to herd the kids or the cats but she is just playing and doing what she was bred to do.
This is a very nice Corgi that deserves a very nice home. She will make a great companion for her new adopter.
You can contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call us at 337-558-5184. We can e-mail you an adoption application and you can e-mail it back or you can fax it back to 337-558-6331.
We do out of the area adoptions as well...we require a "virtual" home visit for out of the area adoptions. Call and arrange a meet and greet with Sadie Corgi today.

A love letter
Written by Darby Day
Dear Ms Jody,

Nessie's Happy Tail
Written by Annie Hudgins Tuesday, 27 April 2010 20:54
Nessie is doing GREAT! She keeps me busy. :)
She crate trained so fast, I was pleasantly surprised.
She actually lets me know when she's ready to go to bed at night already. Also, we are closing in on the last of the potty training issues.
She is VERY smart. She just had her 2nd round of puppy shots and is set to be spayed at the end of May. She still hasn't lost any of her puppy teeth and she is just over 9 pounds now.
I've attached some pictures I think you will enjoy. There's so many pictures of her...cause she's so darn CUTE!
It was a Darby Day at 4 Paws Today!

And, besides the love and attention she'll receive from her new mom and dad, Darby will have 3 rescue sister's to play with at home.
The Day family will be sending pictures of Darby with her new sisters once home and settled.

Darby is going to have a wonderful life, I just feel it!

Jane
Hello!
My name is Jane, Jane Seymour -- because I'm English!
I'm pretty much an English Foxhound by breeding, although the people who left me at the side of the road to fend for myself in the East Texas piney woods didn't know that. But, the nice man who picked me up and found me a foster home didn't really care about my fine English breeding and background -- he just thought I was soooooo cute and sweet. That's because I'm only about 4 or 5 months old and I love everyone, life, playing, running after things that move, jumping in your lap to give you lots of puppy kisses, going on walks on the leash, and...eating!
I don't have any trouble going to sleep at night in my kennel, and I'm just about housebroken. I'm getting fixed soon so I'll be a one of a kind original -- very, very valuable to your family.
Are you looking for me? Cause I've been looking for you. Call my foster parents and they will tell you all about me.
Thank you for listening,.
Love, Jane

Lauri Benoit, a part-time worker at the 4 Paws Kennel fell in love with Ms Dugas so she and her family adopted and renamed her "Charlotte."
Bandit's Happy Tail

John and Becky McNear from Lake Charles were among the many visitors who joined us during the 2nd annual coalition garage sale.
However, their real mission was to adopt Bandit. Bandit was a foster-dog-in-residence with her foster mom, Kayla, for less than 24 hours! John and Bandit are shown here next to 4 Paws President Wanda Williams.
As expected, John and Becky fell in love with this little Chihaahua at first site and took him home to be spoiled.

Sasha Myers from Lake Charles adopted Mr. Dav this Saturday during our 2nd Annual Calcasieu Animal Coalition Event.
Sasha was ready to find a new furry pet after battling cancaer with her Pit Bull. Sadly, she had to put her beloved Pit down.
It is obvious by looking at this photo that she accomplished her mission and that Mr. Dav has found a wonderful forever home.
We are so happy that Sasha has fell in love with Mr. Dav. Everyone with the 4 Paws Society wishes them the very best.

We will miss Flower but know that she has found a great new forever home.
Minnie and Marilyn

Featured Pet Mattie, ADOPTED!
Written by Wanda Williams Sunday, 20 September 2009 13:48

Mattie has been adopted! The 4 Paws family wishes Mattie and her new family the best!
_______________________________________
The following is the original story posted about Mattie:
Mattie is a Pit Bull female that was dumped in a ditch and left to starve to death. She patiently waited all day long in the summer heat hoping that her person would come back for her. She would not leave the area...she was suffering from dehydration and hunger but was being such a loyal pet.
Kira's Happy Tail
Hi, my name is Kira and I am one lucky girl.
A nice volunteer with 4 Paws Society found out about me. She got me to a wonderful foster named Becky who took such good care of me. Then another volunteer finished up with me getting to my forever home in Orangefield, TX with a family of my own.
So, you see, all it took for me was someone who cared.
Now I am happy and healthy and living the good life.
I want to say Thank You to 4 Paws Society. I am finally HOME.

The following e-mail is from Father Filkins, who adopted two of our Corgis. The two Corgis originally belonged to a couple that were missionaries.
They had to leave the USA to go to an overseas assignment. Thus, we got the two Corgis into 4 Paws Society Rescue.
Father Jon Filkins saw them on our site and drove to Southwest Louisiana from Mississippi to adopt them. Now they both live in the rectory with him. So they are still religious Corgis and getting lots of attention from his parishioners too.
An Update on PoBoy
Tuesday, 08 September 2009 13:38
The 4 Paws Society LOVES to hear from those who have adopted a 4 Paws Pet. Below is an e-mail we rec'd from PoBoy's owner, Emily Young!
Hello there!
I know I have shared pictures of PoBoy with you all before, but I just wanted to update you as time goes on!
His leg has healed very nicely after his surgery, and my vet recently opened up a kennel for boarding.
The wonderful employees there take pictures of the dogs during their stays, and PoBoy and my other dog, Chula, love going over to play.
Peanut and Layla now enjoying Galveston
Here is a current picture of 2 of your former residents, Peanut and Layla.

Tanner's Happy Tail
Here are three photos of Tanner.
The first is Tanner with his new pet person, Caitlin. When she is home, he does not walk.
Next is Tanner with his new brother Bentley and Bentley's pet person, Connor.
Tanner was giving Connor some kisses but I was too slow with the camera.
The third picture is his favorite spot outside.
Buddy has found a new home!

Love at first sight!

Frick & Frack Admit Names
Foster Mom Rhonda Saunier forwarded the following e-mail foster success story. We hope you enjoy this Happy Tail as much as we did.
Hi Rhonda:
I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know how the boys fared last night.
They are absolutely precious. I am so glad that we got both of them. They compliment each other so well.

Gibson's Happy Tale
Gibson was adopted this week and the Devier/Garcia family are all smiles.
This is a picture of Gibson, a Schnauzer mix, with Mom( Deidre), Dad (Tomas), Lily (Pink Shirt) and Camille (Purple Shirt).
What a great match and the family reports that Gibson is a "lap rover"...he goes from one family member's lap to the next.
They love him and vice versa.
Happy Tale
Cain's Chance
Cain, of Cain and Able fame, is shown on the right with new sisters, Emily (left) and Kayla.
Cain's new name is Chance and, as you can see, he is healthy and happy!
The photos below were taken within a day or so of after being rescued from a ditch where Cain, his brother Able, and dead mother had been cruely tossed aside!

From a Ditch to Loving arms!
Little Mikey, ADOPTED!
Is this little guy the cutest thing or What?!!
Mikey (named in honor of Mike Brignac - Gator 99.5, who gives dog rescue groups so much air time to promote homeless dog issues), is the latest Rat Terrier-Mix puppy to be rescued from a neglectful home.
He feels about 1 or 2 pounds and will be a small dog when he grows up. He was given away in a bank parking lot at 3 weeks old to a 17 year old whose father said "No dogs in the house", so she left him in the back yard. A relative rescued him there, covered with fleas and gave him a bath and brought him home and gave him to me.
Guppy ADOPTED
We really don't know for sure what Guppy's breed mixes are but whatever it is they should do more of them!
This is one sweet and loving dog. Guppy thinks that everyone is her friend and she is so gentle and kind to everyone.
Guppy is good with other dogs and is easy to walk. She knows sit and she is very attentive to her person. Guppy has a personality that will win you over. She may not be a pure bred dog but she has one of the best temperments ever. She will be a great family dog.
Manly with new owners
Ticker, another Happy Tail....
This Ticker is such a cute beagle guy and he so wants to find a home where he can have a family to love and enjoy.
Ticker is only about 7 months old right now (4/27/09) and he is great with other dogs.
He enjoys the doggie play time he gets at the Pet Hotel.
Mallory

Good luck to Mallory and her new owners.
Mallory is a tiny pup whose mom is a Chihuahua Mix.
Mallory looks a lot like her mom...black and white.
She is only six weeks old as of March 31st and you can hold her in the palm of your hand.
This is one darling puppy and one that is used to people and is well socialized.
Bull
Bull was adopted by Trish Latiolais and he is doing great in his new home with her and her son and their other dogs.

Below is part of what she said in her recent e-mail:
"Hey there, Wanda -- Before adopting Bull, I promised you I'd send our Happy Tails story. We are absolutely in love with Bull. He's perfect for our family and is getting along with our pack very well. I've attached pictures of Bull leaving to go to his new home and then on the couch making himself at home at Trish's house."
Dexter and Sheila
This dog, named Dexter, was one of the dogs featured on KPLC News a few months back.
He was "dumped" with another dog, Amy, on the side of Interstate 10.
The two dogs were seen by passing motorists for weeks before they were caught and brought to Calcasieu Parish Animal Control (CPAC.)
Beignet, Laura & Wayne Comeaux

Hello Wanda!
It's been two months since we adopted Beignet.(our mini American Eskimo girl) and she's all settled in. We were wanting to wait until Spring to send a family photo for Happy Tails.
Charlie Brown
Tucker P finds new home
Tucker P is shown here with his new family...Trent and Kacie Romero.
Chloe
Chloe is a Rhodesian Ridgeback female and is such a wonderful dog...AND, she's been adopted!

She has the cutest look on her face.
Chloe is about 1.5 years old and is totally housetrained. She has always been an inside dog but she needs lots of exercise during the day so a fenced yard is needed. She rides well in a car too.
