Adopting an Animal From 4 Paws Society - The Process

4 Paws does not adopt out dogs on a first come, first serve basis. Because we want for this placement to result in a forever home, we will place the dog with the adopter best suited for him/her.

We do not hold dogs for homes that are not ready to adopt yet or have not yet been approved.

All adult dogs must be spayed/neutered and fully vaccinated prior to adoption. Puppies are handled differently but must ultimately be altered and fully vaccinated.

Here's what you need to do...

• Submit an adoption application. If you prefer, we can can e-mail, mail, or give you one when you meet the animal of interest. Once you submit the adoption application a 4 Paws Society volunteer will review the application with you. All questions need to be answered fully. • We verify vet references that are given on your on line adoption application. We verify that your current or previous pet's have been on heartworm prevention and have been vaccinated according to schedule and that they have been altered.
  
  
• A Home Visit is Scheduled...a home visit is mandatory for all adopters. This will involve a rescue volunteer coming to your home and visiting with you. If you live out of the immediate area then we work with other colleagues in animal rescue in your local area and arrange a home visit.
  
  
• Once the process is completed 4 Paws Society will discuss your application, vet reference and home visit reports. We will notify you of your adoption status.
  
  
• When your adoption is approved we will require you to sign our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Fees range from $100 - $200 depending on the vet care costs and the breed of the pet. The fees will help other abandoned animals in need that are in our program.
